A widely used deflocculant for preparing casting slips.
Sodium Silicate (Na₂SiO₂) is effective, reliable, and inexpensive, and is usually used together with soda ash to prevent slips becoming stringy or thixotropic. It can, however, attack plaster moulds more than modern alternatives and is easier to over-deflocculate.
