Established in 1978, Kettles Pottery Supplies has been supporting potters and ceramic makers for over four decades. What began as a traditional pottery supplier has grown alongside the Scottish ceramics community, adapting to the way people make, work, and fire today.
The business is owned and run by Ash Lim and his small team, a maker and artist with a deep love of clay and the people who work with it. Ash took over Kettles three years ago with a clear aim: to modernise the business while staying true to its roots — improving systems, expanding the range, and making Kettles a more useful, reliable, and supportive supplier for contemporary studios and makers.
At Kettles, we focus on practical, well-chosen materials and equipment, from clays and glazes to kilns, wheels, and studio essentials. We’re especially passionate about supporting the Scottish maker community, whether that’s small home studios, shared workshops, educators, or professional potters running busy practices.
We offer delivery throughout the UK, and you’re always welcome to visit us in person at our shop in Portobello, Edinburgh during opening hours. If you’re planning a bigger purchase — such as a kiln or a wheel — we recommend booking an appointment with Ash. This allows time for a proper, unhurried conversation about space, power requirements, budgets, and long-term studio needs, so you can make the right decision with confidence.
For larger orders, we also offer a personal delivery service. This is carried out by the Kettles team rather than a pallet network, allowing for a more flexible and considered approach. It’s particularly suited to bulk clay orders, kilns, and fragile or high-value items, and helps ensure deliveries arrive safely and in a way that works for your studio. Where possible, this service also allows us to better support potters and studios across Scotland.
